Athletic Development

Athletic Development is a key focus across the whole school, integrated into both PE and Games lessons.

From Years 1 to 7, Fundamental Movement Skills are explicitly taught in Core PE lessons. Additionally, we place significant emphasis on improving functional movement, as well as developing speed, power, strength and agility during Games lessons.

As pupils progress through the school, sport-specific strength and conditioning is incorporated into lessons and training sessions. Pupils also have access to advice on training programmes and nutrition through Mr Grice.

Strength and Conditioning (S&C) is a major component of the sports scholarship programme. All sports scholars receive individual coaching and follow programmes tailored to their sport, strengths and areas for development. These programmes, provided by our S&C qualified staff, are designed to enhance performance and improve robustness to minimise injury risk. These sessions take place at the King’s Rochester Sports Centre before school. Additionally, sports scholars in Upper Fifth (Year 11) and Lower Sixth (Year 12) have additional S&C sessions included in their weekly timetable.
