SENIOR SCHOOL & SIXTH FORM Admissions
Ages 13-18
Pupils enter our Senior School at ages 13, 14, and 16, corresponding to Years 9 (Remove), Year 10 (Lower Fifth), and Year 12 (Lower Sixth). There is a significant annual intake for these years, with many students progressing from our Prep School at age 13.
Attend an Open Event or arrange to meet Mr Ben Charles, our Principal, and tour the school. Contact the Admissions Office by email at admissions@kings-rochester.co.uk or telephone at 01634 888590 to arrange a visit.
Parents may register their child at any time before or after a visit by completing the online registration form and submitting the non-refundable £100 registration fee. Your child’s name will be added to the provisional list for entry in the indicated term. Please note that no child can be assessed for entry without first being registered.
We require copies of your child’s two most recent school reports and we will request a school reference from your child’s current school regarding their academic progress and social traits as well as their predicted GCSE grades, if applicable.
All prospective pupils are interviewed by the Principal or our Senior Deputy Head.
Remove (Year 9): Prospective pupils sit the Common Entrance examination. If the Common Entrance is not available at the current school, we provide our own entrance exams in Maths and English.
Lower Fifth (Year 10): Prospective pupils sit entrance exams in Maths and English.
Lower Sixth (Year 12): Prospective pupils must obtain at least 6 GCSE or IGCSE passes at Grade 6 or above, although for Modern Foreign Languages, Maths or Science, a Grade 7 or 9 is preferred.
We apply these criteria to all pupils and potential pupils, considering any disabilities and making reasonable adjustments to ensure no pupil faces a substantial disadvantage. While we do not have a specialist unit, we try to accommodate children with Additional Educational Needs (AEN) as much as possible.
For pupils with diagnosed additional needs, a current educational psychologist’s report is required. A meeting with our Head of Additional Needs will be arranged to assess the level of support needed and determine our capacity to provide it.
If the assessment is successful, the Head will make a formal offer of a place, sending it to the parents along with the Parent Contract and joining instructions. Parents accept the place by responding in writing, completing the joining instructions, and agreeing to the school’s terms and conditions. A £1000 deposit is required, which is refundable against the final term’s fees but non-refundable if the pupil does not join the school.
