This week, our Year 1 to Year 8 pupils came together for a special Buddy Service in the Cathedral, a wonderful opportunity for our youngest and oldest learners to worship side by side and strengthen their connections across year levels.
The service was made even more memorable as it marked the first day the public were invited into the Cathedral to experience the majestic sperm whale sculptures suspended in the Nave. This breathtaking and thought-provoking installation by artist Tessa Campbell Fraser inspired awe and reflection among both pupils and staff.
In today’s address, our Assistant Vice Principal Mrs George shared a personal and engaging reflection on her love of shoes. Using this familiar image, she linked her story beautifully to the season of Lent – a time of reflection, renewal, and letting go. Mrs George spoke about clearing out old shoes: some worn out, some scuffed, some no longer useful. She likened these shoes to habits and attitudes in our lives that can weigh us down, such as unkindness and selfishness.
Mrs George encouraged everyone to “throw out” these old thoughts and behaviours, reminding us that we only have one life to live and we don’t want such things to clog up our hearts and minds. Her message resonated deeply, inviting pupils to reflect on how Lent can be a time for positive change, kindness, and renewal.
