Racket Sports

In the Senior School, badminton runs during the Michaelmas term and tennis takes place in the Midsummer term.

All abilities are welcome and those who demonstrate higher levels of technical play, tactical awareness and commitment to additional sessions will be selected to participate in a range of fixtures.

The weekly programme involves learning a skill, developing it under pressure, applying it in an adapted game situation, and then playing full games to ensure a variety of skills are enhanced each week.

We also recognise the importance of developing Fundamental Movement Skills and often focus on improving and challenging pupils’ coordination, agility, reaction times and range of movement.

While the scoring system and court areas are covered during lessons, pupils are expected to show an interest in the sport outside of school to improve their understanding of scoring systems and the etiquette associated with being on court. As pupils move into the Sixth Form, they have the option to join either the ‘performance’ or ‘recreational’ tennis group.
