Swimming

Swimming is the cornerstone of our Core PE programme. Pupils in Years 1 to 3 swim once a week under the guidance of qualified coaches and PE teachers. Initially, lessons focus on developing water confidence and laying the foundations of basic stroke technique. Competitive opportunities are available from Year 3 upwards, with galas against local schools as well as inter-house events.

Swimming continues during PE lessons in the Preparatory School for pupils in Years 4 to 7. Lessons focus on progressing technique in all four strokes and developing an understanding of competitive swimming where appropriate. Galas against local schools are on offer during the Michaelmas and Lent terms, and our most able swimmers compete annually at the IAPS and Kent Schools events.

After-school swimming clubs are on offer to all pupils, with additional early morning sessions offered to sports scholars.
