The Round One results are in for the Nickless Prize for General Knowledge 2024.
8W dominated the leader board with seven pupils from this form placed in the top ten finishers of Round One. Remarkably, the top three pupils from the corresponding round last year finished in the same position this autumn. Emily C heads the field at the end of blind test, her score of 48 points giving her a cushion of five points ahead of classmate Emma H, who, in turn, heads Bethan K, by the narrowest of margins. Christopher H leads the chasing peloton with Gabrielle O and Arthur G completing the 8W domination as Mr Wilton’s class secured the bragging rights as the top performing form. Debutants Ethan M, Grace B and Taaraz C (4M) scored impressively in the “Junior” competition, while Ethan O (6W) and Rahul S (6H), members of last year’s Rowland Constantine Shield team, also demonstrated their eclectic knowledge.
In the House Competition, with an average of 10.98 points per pupil, Storrs is at the head of the pack. However, with less than one point per pupil covering all four houses, there is all to play for in Round Two of the quiz. With some fiendishly difficult questions this year, the 56th running of the contest, the challenge for pupils is to claim a “full house” in the second sitting of the paper, thus defeating the quizmaster’s best efforts to outwit and out-Google all-comers!
As a post-script, there was a commendable showing from a number of staff with Mrs Rogers claiming the crown with Miss Walters, the defending champion, finishing third and Mr Wilton reprising his role from 2023 as the runner-up.
