The Governors of King’s School Rochester are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Simon Fisher as the next Principal of the School. Simon will be joining King’s from Dover College, a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18, where he is currently serving as Headmaster.
Simon brings a wealth of leadership experience in independent education. Before his tenure at Dover College, he spent nine years at Worth School, where he was Deputy Head (Academic), overseeing the School’s academic provision during a period of record GCSE results. Prior to that, he was Assistant Head (Director of ICT), leading the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
A passionate historian, Simon studied History at the University of Exeter before completing his PGCE in Secondary Education. His career has been marked by a commitment to academic excellence, innovation in teaching and a strong pastoral ethos. Beyond his school leadership roles, he has contributed to the wider educational community as a Governor for the Effingham Schools Trust. Outside of his professional life, Simon is a keen amateur photographer and enjoys capturing moments of beauty and inspiration.
When informed of his appointment, Simon said: “I am truly honoured and excited to have been appointed as the next Principal of King’s School Rochester. The School’s strong reputation for academic excellence, its wide range of co-curricular opportunities, and its dedication to providing exceptional pastoral care, all grounded in a Christian ethos, make it a very special place. I relish the challenge of guiding the School through its next chapter of growth, despite the challenges facing the independent sector. My family and I look forward to becoming part of the warm and welcoming King’s community and we are excited to meet the pupils, parents, staff, and alumni in the months ahead.”
Simon’s leadership, vision and experience will ensure that King’s School Rochester continues to thrive, providing an exceptional education rooted in its Christian ethos.
The Governors would like to express their gratitude to Mr Ben Charles for his outstanding leadership over the past six years. He has guided King’s through significant challenges, including the Covid lockdowns, and has led with distinction, as reflected in the School’s strong ISI inspection reports. His unwavering commitment to the King’s community and the values of HEART (Happiness, Endeavour, Aspiration, Roundedness, and Teamwork) has left a lasting impact. He will leave King’s at the end of this academic year in a strong position for the future, well-prepared to navigate the challenges ahead.
With deep appreciation for his invaluable contributions, we wish Mr Charles, Helen, and their family every success in their next chapter. In the meantime, he remains fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition for pupils, families and staff.
