During the Midsummer Term, Year 6 pupils in Religious Studies have been learning about Jesus and His Resurrection according to Christianity. To deepen their understanding of this important subject, and with guidance from their teacher Mrs Elugbadebo-Solomons, the following pupils – Deborah L, Tomi S, Milan D, Malachi S, Dougie S, Jake C, Leo D.M, Jiya A, Jasmine H, and Jessica B – decided to organise a chat show featuring guest speaker Father Stephen from Rochester Cathedral.

Remarkably, with only a few hours’ notice, the class began planning their event. They started by exploring how to set up a chat show, assigning roles and responsibilities among themselves. They also collaborated across both Year 6 classes to gather questions from their classmates, which were then organised into groups for discussion.

The chat show took place on the12th of June in the conference centre at the Prep School, with the full Year 6 cohort in attendance. During the event, the pupils learned about the significance of the Resurrection, including evidence supporting it from Luke’s Gospel (chapter 24). They discussed why Jesus gave His life for others and the suffering He endured in doing so.

The overall message of the show focused on faith, believing without seeing, and understanding how human beings can find hope through Jesus’ teachings and the work of His disciples as recorded in the Holy Bible. Father Stephen enjoyed answering the pupils’ insightful questions and remarked on how well-organised and thoughtful their preparations were. The pupils then shared a video where they created their interpretation of Jesus’ resurrection and led a closing prayer to conclude the show.

Father Stephen said, “Today’s event was a powerful reminder of the curiosity and faith of our young minds at King’s. Their thoughtful questions challenged and inspired me, reaffirming that when we seek understanding, even the deepest truths like ‘The Resurrection’ become accessible and meaningful. Congratulations to the pupils for their preparation and courage in exploring these profound questions; you have truly enriched us all.”

This spontaneous event not only enhanced the pupils’ knowledge but also demonstrated their ability to work collaboratively and think quickly under pressure. It was a memorable experience that brought their learning to life and highlighted the importance of faith and hope in Christianity.
