In the Lower Sixth at King’s we get the opportunity to do a week of work experience. It is up to us to choose where we go and to reach out and contact people in our chosen industry to see if they are able to have us join them. I was fortunate enough to get a placement at Ramsay Health Care, a private health company, based in London. Ramsay Health has a significant partnership with the NHS as they welcome private patients, NHS patients and insured patients. They operate hundreds of high-quality hospitals and health care facilities across eight different countries. Ramsay is known for excellent care, clinics and hospitals providing a wide range of services and amazing patient care.

I spent the week in their London headquarters working closely with their marketing team. Over the week I learned many things including the importance of digital marketing in our technology-driven society as well as the importance of soft skills such as communication and critical thinking. I was even lucky enough to visit one of Ramsay’s hospitals in Chelmsford. This day was truly incredible as I got to see the hard work and dedication of every member of staff there, from the call centre to the consultants, everyone plays their part. On other days, I sat in on meetings as I was working with the Chief Customer Officer, this gave me a much broader understanding of how Ramsay operates as a whole. As part of the experience, I travelled up to London on the train and took the tube every day. This made the experience feel real and let me see exactly what commuting would be like. It also gave me independence and freedom that I do not experience normally at school.

The experience has helped me realise that marketing is something I would like to pursue in the future. Ramsay has also offered me more work experience over the summer. I am hoping to secure an apprenticeship or a job after Sixth Form in marketing or PR.
