Academic Scholars and keen historians were privileged to attend the latest Zetountes Society Lecture this week. The talk focused on the role of the British Army in India, charting the role of the East India company in the development of trading links via Robert Clive; the Indian Revolt of 1857; campaigns against and with the Gurkhas; and the Afghan Wars to Independence. Our guest speaker, parent Mr Ronald Brighouse, spoke with passion and knowledge, punctuating his talk with tales of his family’s own involvement with the sub-continent spanning several centuries. He illustrated the talk with family photographs and artefacts, including rare weapons dating back to the 1750s. King’s Scholar Bryer L (L6) completed the fascinating evening with a vote of thanks on behalf of the Society, noting the privilege afforded the group.
