Arthur G and Gabrielle O, King’s Scholars and members of our Removes, had the privilege of speaking at a reception at the Houses of Parliament last evening. The event was sponsored by the Rt Hon Lord Pickles, the Embassy of Israel and the Holocaust Educational Trust and marked the launch of the Survivor’s Declaration Project.
Arthur and Gabby spoke with poise and eloquence on the Testimony 360 Project that our Remove pupils undertook earlier this term. Testimony 360 offers pupils the opportunity to ask questions of a Holocaust survivor and engage in real-time interactions about their life experiences and, using virtual reality headsets, explore some of the sites and artefacts associated with the Holocaust as they appear today.
Gabby recited a moving letter that she had written to Manfred Goldberg BEM, a remarkable Holocaust survivor born in Kassel, Germany in 1930, only days before his death last month, while Arthur established the links between historical antisemitism and the increased hatred that underpins the recent attack in a Manchester synagogue.
Our pupils shared the platform with Susan Pollack, a 93 year-old Auschwitz survivor and were the only pupils present from across the UK. They received innumerable plaudits from the audience of dignitaries and were wonderful ambassadors of King’s School.

The annual House Chess tournament took place this week. For the first time, it was a whole school event, with players from year 3 to year 13 represented.
