The weather gods smiled upon us as Open Mic Night took over Oriel Garden.

Before a single note was sung, the crowd was treated to an opening act nobody saw coming. In a tribute to British TV royalty, our MCs for the evening – Abe and Oscar – marched out in matching Ant and Dec attire. Without missing a beat, the duo launched into a highly synchronised, energetic rendition of the 90s classic Let’s Get Ready to Rumble, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.

Collaboration was in the air, with standout duets and group numbers spanning genres. The programme featured musical theatre hits from The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, and Tangled, alongside a fantastic rendition of Nena’s 99 Red Balloons – performed in both English and German. A number of our soloists impressed with their musical versatility: Vihr opened the concert accompanying himself on the piano for Tom Odell’s Another Love and Iman pulled double duty singing and playing the trumpet in her smooth cover of Chet Baker’s But Not For Me. Miss KcKeever and Miss Roux sang a beautiful duet together and who knew Miss McKeever could play the guitar like that!

A massive thank you goes to Mr Fisher for the use of his beautiful garden, the Estates team for moving all of our gear, Mr Bailey for his tech support, Dylan for managing front of house, and Lily for treating us to some highly impressive drum solos.

Thank you to everyone who came out to perform and support, and of course, to Abe and Oscar who proved they have a bright future in daytime television. We are already looking forward to the next one!
