Pupils from Year 8 enacted a poignant scene from Sue Saunders’ play “In Holland Stands a House“, the story of Anne Frank, as part of Rochester Cathedral’s Holocaust Memorial Day Service. Together with pupils from five other local schools, members of the Medway Youth Council and Chatham Memorial Synagogue, alongside local civic dignitaries, the service, led by the Bishop of Tonbridge, commemorated the victims of the Shoah and other genocides. With the theme of “Bridging Generations“, participants highlighted the importance of preserving the testimony of Holocaust survivors for future generations, a message made all the more powerful by recent events in Sydney and Manchester. To the backdrop of a candle-lit menorah, our pupils explored the fate of the Frank family and her fellow refugees in the Secret Annexe, recalling words from Anne’s famous diary. Our pupils can be proud of their role in this moving and important event.
