Celebrating A Level & BTEC Success at King’s

Satis Garden was once again filled with smiles as we gathered to celebrate the academic success of our Class of 2026, with 36% of A Level grades awarded at A* – A and 65% at A* – B.

Behind the statistics are exceptional individual achievements and a diverse range of exciting destinations, reflecting the ambition, talent and individuality of the King’s community. From Oxford and Russell Group universities to the world-renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and degree-level apprenticeships. These destinations reflect the breadth of talent, ambition and interests within the Class of 2026, with pupils now embarking on pathways across academic, creative and professional fields. 

Mr Fisher, expressed his pride in the cohorts accomplishments:

“We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Upper Sixth pupils today. Our results continue to go from strength to strength, with particularly impressive increases in the proportion of grades awarded at A* – A and A* – B.

“These achievements are a true testament to the academic ambition of our pupils, alongside the unyielding support of our dedicated staff and families.

Chester Celebrates Oxford Offer

Next Steps: Reading History and Politics at the University of Oxford

Chester C was celebrating after gaining a place at Oxford.Chester joined King’s in Year 4, progressing all the way to Sixth Form. Upon opening his results, Chester shared that he felt “happy and relieved at the same time.” He expressed particular pride in his top grade in Politics, remarking, “I worked really hard for that. It’s nice to see it all come through.”

Looking ahead to his time at Oxford, Chester noted that he is “most excited for a totally new learning experience” and is looking forward to “really throwing myself in the deep end and seeing what it’s like.”

Reflecting on his time at King’s, he praised the staff, saying, “the amount of support from all the teachers is incredible” and added, “I really, really couldn’t do it without all the support from the school.” He highlighted the close-knit atmosphere as what he will miss most, explaining that “it does feel like a big family” and describing the student-teacher relationship as “priceless.”

His advice for pupils sitting their A-levels next year is: “Do the work. You’ve got to revise, know your stuff, but other than that, just try not to stress too much… You do your best when you’re relaxed. So just take a deep breath, and you’ll be fine.”

A* A* A A an Acute Result for Ralf

Subjects Studied: Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and EPQ

Next Steps: Reading Accountancy and Finance at the University of Warwick

Ralf joined King’s in Year 7, taking his Maths A-level a year early to secure an A* before going on to achieve A grades in Further Maths and Chemistry. Ralf said he was “happy to move on to uni” after successfully getting into his chosen institution. Reflecting on his grades, he noted, “I’m really proud of obtaining an A* in maths a year early… I got 89% in further maths and that wasn’t an A* – it’s just a really hard subject. I’m proud of myself.”

Ralf praised the tailored support at King’s, particularly highlighting how much the small class sizes benefited his learning style: “I’m someone who likes to ask a lot of questions, so with only two or three people in my further maths class, I was always able to ask loads of questions every lesson and get the one-to-one teaching that can help me.”

He shared that he will miss seeing his friends every day, as well as his further maths teacher, Mr Stevens, whom he named as his favourite teacher because he “brought a smile to my face every day.”

Fabian Accounting on Exeter

We are thrilled to celebrate Fabian, one of our Sixth Form students, who has secured a place to study at the prestigious University of Exeter. Fabian joined King’s in Year 7 and was delighted to secure the grades required to take up his place at the University of Exeter to study Accounting and Finance.

Upon receiving his results, Fabian expressed immense relief, sharing that he felt “hugely relieved and happy… It could have gone either way.” He was particularly proud of his grade in Computer Science, remarking, “Computer science is a really difficult subject, and I’m really happy that I managed to get the grade I needed for that.”

Reflecting on his experience at King’s, Fabian highlighted the unique benefit of the School’s size: “The good thing about Kings is being a smaller school the teachers can be focused on you as a person.” He credited staff like Mrs Miles in the Sixth Form centre for providing tailored support through “one-on-one conversations about where you’re going, what you’re doing, applying places and going to open days.” Fabian also gave a special mention to Mrs Howard for her support, and listed the Lower Sixth trip to Tanzania as an unforgettable highlight: “We stayed with the Maasai tribe… I feel like that’s something I’ll never do again, and Kings gave me the opportunity to do that.” On what he will miss most, he described the “family kind of environment where everyone knows everyone” and how pupils build “friendships for life.”

His advice for incoming A-level students is to maintain perspective and self-belief: “You’ve just got to believe in yourself. If you know you can do it, you probably can do it!”

Tom Triumphs with A, A, B, B

Next Steps: Gap year to work, followed by studying Politics and International Relations at Cardiff University

Tom was thrilled to receive A, A, B, B in his A Levels. Tom joined King’s in Year 8, seeking an academic environment that would help elevate his academic performance: “I came here to boost my grades because I was at a different school but I felt King’s would push me more.”

His decision paid off, securing a strong set of results, including an A in Politics and an A in Religious Studies. Reflecting on his achievements, Tom noted that he was especially proud of his History coursework, in which he scored 34 out of 40.

Following a gap year dedicated to working, Tom plans to read Politics and International Relations at Cardiff University. Looking back at his school years, he shared that he will miss the people and particularly the sports, having played rugby throughout his time at King’s. While he intends to referee rather than play in the future, he looks forward to making a return for the Old Roffensians match.

His advice for pupils preparing for A-levels next year is straightforward: “Just work for them. I mean, a little revision goes a long way. Just work at it, work hard for your grades… and you will achieve what you want.”

Success for Shiv with A* A* A B

Having joined King’s for Sixth Form, Shiv achieved an impressive set of results, securing an A* in English and the EPQ, an A in Religious Studies and a B in Maths.

Reflecting on his grades, he admitted feeling ” relieved,” particularly after feeling apprehensive following his Maths exam. He expressed immense pride in his English result, sharing, “In my in-class tests, I’ve literally never got above a B, and I was predicted an A, and I ended up getting an A*.”

Shiv plans to take a gap year to travel and volunteer in Cambodia before applying for apprenticeships and university places. Reflecting on his time at King’s, he praised the supportive environment, noting that the school gave him “a close network of people who I will keep in touch with.” His most memorable moments were participating in the music concerts, which allowed him to put his passion for music into practice.

Grateful for the support he received during Sixth Form, Shiv gave a heartfelt mention to his teachers, as well as Mrs Miles and Miss Howard “for always greeting me with a smile.” His final words of wisdom for others facing tough times are to stay resilient: “Just keep going. You’ll be fine.”

A Try-umphant Finish for Rugby Star Nathaniel

Subjects Studied: Physical Education (BTEC Sport Single Diploma), Mathematics and Economics
A-level Results: Distinction* in BTEC Sport, A, B, B
Next Steps: Studying Finance at Exeter or Nottingham

Nathaniel joined King’s in Year 3, building a long-standing relationship with the school. After a wake-up call during his mock exams and a period spent recovering from a broken wrist, Nathaniel committed himself to an intensive study schedule. His determination saw him raise his Economics grade from a C/D up to an A, alongside securing a B in Maths and a Distinction* in BTEC Sport.

Reflecting on his progress, he shared, “I think I shocked myself… If I keep at the rate I’m going at, where I put hours into it, the results will pay off. Just believing in yourself is the main thing.” He highly praised the BTEC Sport course for its practical value, noting that the coursework helped him develop real-world skills like writing CVs, drafting cover letters and preparing for interviews.

During his time at King’s, Nathaniel felt continually encouraged to push his limits, both academically and in sports, eventually captaining the rugby First XV. He described leading the team through a three-game winning streak as his fondest memory: “Across the First XV and Second XV, it felt like a family. That’s definitely one thing I’ll remember.”

He attributes much of his growth to the steady support of his teachers and peers. His advice for upcoming A-level students focuses on discipline and balance: “When it’s time to work, work. When it’s time to party, party… Maintain your mental health, but there are times where you have to lock in and put the work in, and it’ll pay off.”

A Reel Success for Imogen

Next Steps: Deferring a place at Royal Holloway for Film Production to take a gap year travelling in Europe

Imogen is celebrating after securing her place to study Film Production at Royal Holloway. She plans to take a gap year first to travel across Europe.

Reflecting on her time at the school, Imogen expressed deep gratitude for the all-round support she received, noting, “There’s the teachers who help you in your academic subjects, Mrs Miles who does everything logistically with you… and then extracurriculars like drama and sport that help you gain confidence and give you those skills you can take to uni.”

Her favourite memory from her final year was playing Enjolras in the school production of Les Misérables, where she performed her first singing solo. Having spent her entire school life at King’s she shared that she will miss the people most. Her advice for pupils preparing for A-levels next year is to maintain balance: “Just take every day as it comes really, focus in the lessons and try your best, but also enjoy the common room, because that’s probably the best bit – seeing all your friends around.”

A* in Art for Bryer

Next Steps: Gap year working and travelling in Southeast Asia, followed by reading Philosophy and Theology at the University of Bristol

Congratulations to Bryer who achieved a top grade in Art alongside B grades in English Literature and Psychology.

Delighted with her results, she shared, “I’m feeling so good, actually… I’m so happy. I’m going to miss King’s, but it’s time for the next chapter.” She was particularly proud of her top grade in Art, adding, “I worked so hard for that. I was always in the art department – that’s where I love to be.”

Before heading to the University of Bristol to study Philosophy and Theology, Bryer plans to work through the autumn before embarking on a gap year trip to Southeast Asia with a friend.

Looking back on her time at King’s, she recalls the school plays and musical events as major highlights, pointing to her role as Éponine in Les Misérables as her most cherished memory. She will miss the sports matches and house events. Her message for students embarking on their A-levels next year is simple: “Love the subjects you pick. It’s worth the revision – lock in, get your head down and you’ll be fine.”

Laura Set to Make a World of Difference

Next Steps: Reading Global Humanitarian Studies at University College London (UCL)

Laura is celebrating her results after achieving A*, A, and two Bs. Laura joined King’s as a Chadlington Scholar for Sixth Form, completing two years that culminated in securing a place at UCL to study Global Humanitarian Studies.

Reflecting on her results, Laura shared that she felt proud and relieved after facing a challenging exam season: “They were really hard exams, but I gave it my all.” She was particularly pleased with her A* in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), explaining, “That took a lot of work and I was very proud of that. It was something I was really passionate about, so it paid off very well.”

As a boarder, Laura praised the house environment for feeling like a “home away from home” and providing a steady routine during exam periods. She enjoyed taking on a senior role in the boarding house, sharing, “It felt nice being the big sister to all the girls in the boarding house since I was the oldest… You learn lots of new things and you meet lots of new people.” Overcoming a fear of public speaking through delivering a chapel address stood out as a personal highlight. Her advice to upcoming A-level students is practical and uplifting: “Work hard and get lots of sleep… Be proud of your achievements and give it your all.”
