The Lunchtime Recital Series at Rochester Cathedral, held in collaboration with King’s School, Rochester, continues to be a charming highlight of the local cultural calendar. The most recent performance on Monday showcased the impressive breadth of talent within the School’s Music Scholars. Set against the backdrop of the Whale Exhibition the event offered a serene mid-day escape for the local community.
The programme was delightfully varied, spanning a wide range of eras and instruments. Highlights included:
- Alex opening with the powerful Suite Gothique by Boëllmann on the organ.
- Lyrical vocal performances by Romy and Luke.
- Technical displays on the clarinet, cello and piano by Christopher, Arthur, and Emma.
- An atmospheric rendition of Satie’s Gnossienne no. 1 by Lily on the saxophone.
This series provides a vital platform for young musicians to hone their craft in a professional, acoustic-rich environment. For those who missed this installment, the music continues shortly; the next recital is scheduled for Monday, 2nd March, featuring a dedicated programme of organ music by Robbie Carroll, the Assistant Director of Music at the Cathedral.
