On Saturday, the Model UN team travelled to Epsom College for a 200-strong conference, representing the UK and El Salvador. Issues debated ranged from organ trafficking to the US-Venezuelan conflict and, inevitably, the impact of Donald Trump.

For some delegates, this was their first conference—with Polina C stepping up at only 48 hours’ notice—but their enthusiasm, coupled with the returners’ increased confidence, was obvious. All the King’s delegates were active at every stage; amendments were proposed, speeches made, and alliances formed. The UK delegates relentlessly worked the General Assembly to canvass support, while El Salvador’s placard was raised at every opportunity. Controversy was provided by Ben H, an outspoken UK delegate on the Historic Security Council, and Iman M (Health, El Salvador), who outraged her committee by attempting to ban AI!

We are incredibly proud of our delegates for their hard work. MUN can be a nerve-wracking experience, but every King’s pupil made their mark. Congratulations to Anne AA, Sarah-Sophie B, Chester C, Polina C, Ben H, Josephine HR (voted SOCHUM’s best-dressed), Iman M, and Neha N. Extra congratulations go to Ben H, whose powerhouse performance earned him Commended Delegate.
