The Lower Sixth cohort took a significant step toward their post-school futures with an immersive University Experience Day at Canterbury Christ Church University. One pupil, Thomas K, shared his experience of the visit:
“The day started off with a mock lecture on International Law from one of the professors. This section of the trip was my personal favourite, as we were able to discuss current affairs.
In one of our tasks, we were asked to take the role of a lawyer and create an argument for the General Assembly on how the USA has broken the United Nations Charter (specifically under Article 2), linking to recent events such as Greenland. During this task, we were able to see how each member of the year group viewed this, and everyone was encouraged to stand up and give their view, even if public speaking was not their forte. After the lecture, we were taken on a tour around the university where we were able to see the vast facilities the campus had to offer. Following a brief lunch break in the cafeteria, we had a talk about student life at university. It was at this point the difference between school life and university life became clear, as we were presented with the different lifestyles you are able to live and all the extracurricular activities offered. Overall, this day was highly enjoyable and extremely useful not just for me, but for the entire year group. I feel much more prepared for a potential university education now.”
