Sixth Form Uniform

The School is frequently congratulated on the smart appearance and polite manners of its pupils. We are particularly proud of the King’s uniform and pupils are expected to wear it with pride. It is important therefore that pupils should be smartly dressed at all times.

School uniform must be worn for classroom lessons and when travelling to and from School. Pupils may be allowed to remove jackets during a lesson but these should be replaced neatly before leaving the classroom.

When permitted by the Senior Deputy Head, pupils may remove their suit jackets and long shirt sleeves may be rolled up to the elbow.

On some more formal occasions, such as Speech Day, Commemoration Day, and the Carol Service, all pupils are required to wear a plain white shirt (tucked in) and no jumper.

Members of the Sixth Form are expected to attend school in professional business attire, this includes:

• Suits should be plain black or traditional navy – they should not be pinstripe. If pupils wish to wear a three piece suit, waistcoats must be plain and match the suit.
• Suit skirts may be six cm above the knee and should be tailored in navy or black.
• Skirts and trousers should be tailored and black or navy – they must not be chinos, denim or lycra.
• Shirts or blouses should be white or pale blue, plain or pinstripe with a stiff collar. They should be tucked in at all times.
• A black or navy blue jumper may be worn to match the colour of the suit. ¼ Zips are not permitted.
• A school tie should be worn with a shirt. Representative ties may be worn with permission from the Deputies.
• Socks must be ankle grey or black and tights must be black or natural in colour.
• Shoes should be black, clean and polished at all times. Heels may not be more than 6cm high. Patent shoes are not allowed.
• Coats should be black or navy blue and not grey. They should not have obvious logos and should not have fur linings or trimming.
• Sixth Form pupils are allowed to wear one ring, one necklace, one bracelet and one earring in each ear, not more than 1cm in diameter.
• Pupils are not allowed to wear fake nails and should wear natural coloured nail polish only.
• Sixth Form pupils are allowed to wear subtle makeup – light concealer, no eye shadow, no eye pencil or lipstick. No false eyelashes are permitted.
• Hair should be kept clean, tidy and out of the eyes. Unnatural dyes/tints are not allowed. Hair should be no shorter than a No. 2 and side burns must be no longer than the middle of the ear and well trimmed.
• Faces must be clean shaven or religious customs followed.

Hair, Faces and Jewellery

• Pupils in the Remove, Lower Fifth and Upper Fifth may wear a small single metal stud earring in the lobe of each ear.  No other jewellery (other than a wrist watch or jewellery for religious reasons) may be worn. Smart Watches (i.e. watches that have messaging capability or connect to a pupil’s phone) are not permitted. 
• No make-up or nail varnish should be worn, fake nails or eyelashes are not permitted.
• Hair should be kept clean, tidy and out of the eyes. For pupils in Remove, Lower Fifth and Upper Fifth, hair that touches the shoulder should be tied back in a ponytail, bun or plait with a black, grey or navy blue hair band or tie. Unnatural dyes/tints are not allowed. Hair should be no shorter than a No. 2 and side burns must be no longer than the middle of the ear and well trimmed. Headwear or headscarfs are only permitted for religious reasons, and if worn should be plain black or navy. 
• Faces must be clean shaven or religious customs followed.

Sports Kit

All kit worn must be King’s branded. Pupils should wear:

• King’s School branded Canterbury shorts and t-shirt
• For Rugby, King’s branded Canterbury rugby shorts, rugby shirt and long socks
• For all other sports, white ankle socks should be worn
• King’s branded Canterbury tracksuit midlayer and bottom may be worn
• King’s branded Canterbury contact top may be worn in inclement weather
• Suitable footwear depending on the activity
• Pupils should wear trousers when in the Cathedral.

The following items are the uniform that can be purchased from our uniform supplier Monkhouse, those marked* can only be purchased from Monkhouse:

• White ankle socks for all other activities
• Suitable footwear depending on activity
• Any base layers should be plain black

For Rugby, pupils will need:

• Football/Rugby Boots. All studs must bear the British Standard Safety Kitemark
• Gum shield (compulsory)

For Cricket, pupils will need:

• School Baseball Cap *
• Cricket Box and Box-Shorts
• Tracksuit bottoms
• White trainers or cricket spikes

Cricket whites are only required if the pupil is selected for a school fixture.

For Badminton/Tennis, pupils will need:

• Their own racket.

For Swimming, pupils will need:

• A King’s branded white swimming cap and plain black or navy swimming costume/speedos.
