In science Year 2 have been learning that habitats can be small and local, but also very extensive. The children brought in many exciting dioramas of major habitats and thoroughly enjoyed presenting these to the class. They researched what makes each creature perfectly adapted to its habitat and explained the materials they used to build their ecosystems.
The children then visited the Woodlands at the Alps, where they investigated which creatures are best suited to the woodland habitat and learned about nocturnal animals. They shared their knowledge of the basic needs of different animals and plants in that habitat and how they depend on one another.
Back at school, Year 2 had great fun building habitats for woodland animals. They created bug hotels using natural materials such as sticks and leaves and even designed mini dens to provide shelter for small creatures.
