SIXTH FORM

Sixth Form gives pupils the freedom and confidence to shape their own paths. This is a tremendously stimulating time as pupils are given the freedom to pursue their own specialisms and experience various enrichment activities. Sixth Formers enjoy much smaller study groups, and develop supportive and mature relationships with their teachers and peers.

Sixth Formers are expected to undertake a minimum of three subjects at A Level or BTEC, along with other enrichment activities. There is also the option to take the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which is viewed very favourably by the top universities.

The extensive range of subjects available to study at Sixth Form includes: Art and Design, Biology, Business Economics, Chemistry, Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Design and Technology, Drama and Theatre, Economics, English Literature, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, French, Geography, History, Latin, Music, Physical Education, Psychology, Physics, Religious Studies and Spanish. Overseas pupils are encouraged to sit A Level and BTEC examinations in their native language.

Most Sixth Formers have fifteen private reading periods per fortnight, which are taken in the Sixth Form Centre or Library. The Sixth Form Centre includes a study area and facilities to make hot drinks and snacks at break and lunchtime.

Our Lower Sixth pupils’ academic progress is complemented through the King’s Extend Programme, which features the award-winning Ivy House Award. In the Upper Sixth, the King’s Extend has a strategic focus on UCAS, apprenticeships and career planning, supporting our pupils to plan their future journey into the world of work.
