On the evening of the hottest June day for about 50 years, pupils in Years 4 to 8 gave a wide range of excellent performances to their parents, friends and teachers. In a first for this event, five LAMDA pupils took to the stage, having recently taken exams, to recite some of their favourite poetry and prose. The audience was treated to performances from ballet classes in Years 4 and 7, with the Prep School dance troupe starting proceedings with great energy. Joyous ensemble music was made by the Brass Monkeys, Choir, Superstrings and Wind Band, while solos were offered by Year 8 pupils Gabrielle, Luke and Christopher.

All the pupils performed with smiles on their faces, despite the exceptional temperature in the auditorium, demonstrating how much they were enjoying presenting the results of their hard work to everyone in attendance. As Mrs Crozer mentioned while addressing the audience on the night, we have to remind ourselves that the talent and confidence we are witnessing is coming from some very young people – including some who are only eight years old! This evening was a special way to celebrate not only individual and group achievements, but also the value that the performing arts bring to our community.

Thanks, as always, go to the many members of staff who coach, encourage, rehearse, direct and prepare King’s pupils for such showcases. Special mention, of course, goes to Mr Vinall, who is retiring after 43 years of music-making at King’s. This was his official final performance with us and, while we’ll miss him tremendously, we wish him every happiness in his retirement. Finally, we must say a huge “Congratulations!” to all dancers, orators and musicians – you did yourselves, your parents and your school very proud.
