The annual croquet competition between the Headmaster’s IV and the King’s Scholars and Heads of School took place this week on the well-prepared lawn of Oriel House.  The Principal is yet to lose this traditional end of year competition, although the students this year were in fighting form as they hoped to topple his unbeaten record.  Day one was rather wet, which caused issues with drag on the balls.  The King’s Scholars fought well, although hadn’t practised before in damp conditions.  The staff team brought their A game, although were put through their paces with some fine action on behalf of the scholars.  The score at the end of day one was a finely balanced 11-9 to the Principal.  Day two was altogether drier with the lawn behaving more as normal.  An inexperienced staff team threatened to fall to the competitive Heads of School players, who had managed to sneak in a couple of extra prefects.  Some very tactical play was had, with hesitant play from some members of staff.  Mr Charles however saw the threat and upped his game, securing a win past a competitive side.  At the end of day two, the total score stood at 24 points to the staff, and 16 points to the students.  Mr Charles will rest easy for another year.
