The series of Zetountes Lectures began this week with an outstanding talk by two senior leaders from EDF Energy. Dr David Cole and Mr Tom Richley, OR, offered a fascinating insight into the country’s changing energy needs in the context of the trilemma of providing a reliable, sustainable and economic provision. Heavily involved in the shaping of future policy and with experience of managing aspects of the Sizewell nuclear reactor, our guest speakers engaged the audience of academic scholars and Eco-council members in an address entitled “Humanity, Emissions and Energy”.

Pupils impressed with their insightful questions as our speakers examined the issues around energy production and transmission with a particular focus on renewable energy sources and nuclear power in a transitioning green economy. At the end of the 75-minute session, pupils offered a warm vote of thanks for a splendid start to the season before quizzing our speakers who had journeyed from Bristol and Suffolk to speak to the group.
