The overall results for the Nickless Prize for General Knowledge 2024 are now in!

Christopher H (8W) was one of six centurions in Round Two of the Nickless Prize for General Knowledge. Recording a total of 141 points, Christopher snuck ahead of last year’s runner-up to claim the title by four points from classmate Emma H. These two will be awarded prizes in July’s Speech Day. 

Gabrielle O finished third as 8W completed a clean sweep of the podium places.  Congratulations are due to these pupils for their excellent showing in the 56th running of the contest initiated by former Headmaster of the Preparatory School, Mr C. J. Nickless, OR.

For the second year in succession Ethan O (6W) and Roman G (7R) scored a “full-house” in the Second Round, while Zain B (7R), Leo DM (6W) and Tomi S (6H) also notched up centuries, a tribute to their research and memorization skills and not their cover drives or reverse sweeps!  Ethan is to be congratulated on winning the unofficial “junior crown” with Arturo W (4SM) and Sam LC (5W) finishing the overall leading scorers in Years 4 and 5, respectively.

Indeed, with some fiendishly difficult questions this year, it was encouraging see a significant increase in the scores of the majority of pupils over the two rounds of the contest with the mean score trebling, signalling much profitable work during the half-term break.

In the House Competition, with an average of 44.46 points per pupil, Storrs finished in first place from Crick (42.88 points) in second and Whiston third-placed (39.81 points), with a little more than five points per pupil covering all four houses.

Many of the afore-mentioned will participate in the plethora of competitions which begin in earnest in the Lent Term, so there is plenty of incentive to test the family’s General Knowledge between mince-pies over the Christmas break!
