Year 6 visited Rochester Guildhall Museum as part of their Classics lessons. The STEM in Society unit explores ancient innovations and technology and their impact on society and pupils learnt about the innovative tools and strategies that helped the Roman army conquer and maintain control over Britain. At the museum, pupils had the opportunity to try on replicas of Roman military equipment, including the scutum and lorica segmentata. These hands-on experiences allowed them to appreciate the protective advantages these innovations provided to Roman soldiers. They also gained insight into how Roman technology facilitated the successful invasion of Britain and how the Romans contributed to the development of Rochester as a town.
