Last Friday, our Sixth Form quad – Chester C, Toby S, Laurence T, and Taylor M – competed in the HRR qualifying race for the Fawley Challenge Cup. This is the pinnacle of racing for rowing in the UK, with a very high level of competition from the best rowing clubs and schools across the country. The last time the School raced at Henley was in 1995; therefore, this was a very important step in our development plan.
The boys sculled beyond expectations, but the harsh weather conditions (headwind with gusts) did take a heavy toll on our technique. Competing against 56 crews for 10 spots, we did not qualify further but managed to beat some of the more established rowing schools, which gives us high hopes for next year’s competition.
