King’s French and Politics pupils showed great resilience after major travel issues forced the planned trip to Brussels to divert to Boulogne-sur-Mer.
The pupils made the most of the change in plan, exploring the historic French city, which was under English rule until 1550 and served as a major bombing target during the Second World War. Starting at the Château, the group worked their way down through the old town to the port. Lunch was ordered entirely in French, before language skills were tested further while buying chocolate, patisseries, and other souvenirs in the shadow of the Bonaparte monument. The sun even made an appearance for a visit to Boulogne’s beautiful beach, followed by a smooth, moonlit Channel crossing home.
While missing the European Parliament was a disappointment, we are incredibly proud of our pupils for embracing the unexpected and making the very most of their day in Boulogne.
