This term has been a busy one for the General Knowledge Club. Each Friday lunchtime, a loyal band of pupils has gathered to tackle general knowledge questions and, in addition, the group has participated in a number of competitions.
The mixed age-group team competed in the Rowland Constantine Shield against teams from all over the county; although they failed to qualify for next term’s final, the Schools’ Challenge competition involved the Junior A and B teams in buzzer quizzes against schools from Northern Ireland and Scotland. While the teams could not emulate last year’s group, which won through to the National Finals, nearly 20 matches were played across the school this term, involving some nail-biting finishes.
The SATIPS Challenge morphed into the SATIPS Thinking Challenge this year and sixteen competitors entered the Junior and Senior competitions. Zain B was our most distinguished performer, finishing 9th in the country in the Senior competition. He was joined by Ethan M and Teddy B in winning Gold Awards in the Junior competition. Jake M and Roman G won Silver Awards in the Senior challenge, alongside Aria H, Alastair T, Kyan H and Arturo W in the Junior classification, representing the top 30% of the country.
With only the Senior and Junior House competitions to come next term, the curtain is closing on another busy season. As always, thanks are due to Mr Williamson, who has been a stalwart supporter of general knowledge, acting as scorer and supporter of the School’s teams.
