Over 70 young musicians gathered in King’s School Hall for a space-themed musical adventure this week. Pupils from King’s School Rochester hosted visitors from Balfour Primary School, Merton Court Preparatory School and Sevenoaks Preparatory School to learn two pieces of music: the theme from ‘Dr Who’ by Delia Derbyshire and ‘Mars’ from Gustav Holst’s Planets Suite.
For most pupils, this was their first time playing in a full-sized symphony orchestra, complete with full wind, brass, percussion and string sections. Pupils worked hard throughout the day and made some new friends. Parents were invited to an Open Rehearsal in the afternoon to hear the impressive results of the day’s rehearsals.
The day was a huge success, thanks to the dedication of the young musicians and a team of over 20 staff from King’s and the visiting schools who helped out throughout.
