Originally scheduled to race on Friday, our crews had to pivot quickly when extreme heat forced organisers to push our races to Saturday morning. Despite the last-minute disruption and shifting conditions, our athletes handled the change with the utmost professionalism.
Last year, we fielded a single quad. This year, thanks to the depth and growth of our squad, we proudly put two exceptional crews on the water with the following finish times.
- KSR A: Chester / Laurence / Ben / Taylor 6:44.6
- KSR B: Reuben / Tristan / Connor / Silas 7:39.4
The fastest non-qualifier time was 6:28.7 so we were very close to qualifying with our crew A.
The competition this year was incredibly fierce. A massive field of 57 crews were fighting for just 9 qualifying spots, making it a significantly harder hill to climb than in previous years.
While we didn’t secure a spot in the main draw, both crews raced phenomenally well. We went toe-to-toe with some of the heaviest names on the entry list and beat some of them. The step up in performance, power, and technique from last year was massive.
Head of Rowing Mr Piticariu said “I am incredibly proud of how our crews performed. They showed immense resilience, focus, and professionalism throughout a disrupted weekend and during the races themselves.”
The weekend was a fantastic stepping stone for the club. We have proven that we can compete at this level with multiple boats, and we are already looking forward to next year, where the goal will undoubtedly be to return and try to qualify with two crews once again.
A massive well done to all eight rowers for your incredible hard work, discipline, and commitment throughout the training block and on race day.
We also want to extend a huge thank you to Mr David Trace for his invaluable help, support, and coaching throughout the day.
