Despite a morning of light showers, the annual croquet tournament between the Principal’s Staff Team, the Heads of School and the King’s Scholars went ahead undampened as players assembled in the regal surroundings of Oriel Garden.This also marked Mr Fisher’s first opportunity to defend the unbroken Headmasters’ winning record against the pupils, a record we claim has stood since Henry VIII himself brought his croquet mallet to Rochester. Both pupils and staff very much enjoyed their time together, navigating the sloping lawn of Oriel House, accompanied with luncheon at half-time. Sadly, despite a valiant effort on the part of the Scholars and Senior Prefects, the Principal’s team was once again victorious, the scoreline ending at 22 points to the staff and 18 to the pupils. The unbroken streak remains and sets the challenge for next year’s Upper Sixth!
