
This year’s Nickless Prize, the 56th running of the General Knowledge Competition initiated by Mr Christopher Nickless, OR, former Headmaster of the Preparatory School, in 1969, provided an especially stiff challenge.
Gurtaran B (8B), Zain B, George B, Roman G and Jake M (all 8L) lead the way with tied scores, showing a broad understanding of a range of topics, including local history, popular culture, sport, current affairs and politics.
In the unofficial junior competition, there were some encouraging performances with the Year 6 crown shared between Teddy B (6T) and Kyan H (6W), while in Years 5 and 4 the titles were won by Ethan M (5W) and Jamie T (4M), respectively.
8L topped the Form Competition with six of the first fifteen competitors.
In the House Competition, six Crick pupils appeared on the leaderboard, but it was Storrs that outshone the other houses overall. However, it was a close call going into Round Two with only a little over two points per child separating all four houses.
Miss Walters, whose eclectic knowledge included the Classics, not unsurprisingly given her degree, and, perhaps, more surprisingly, Snooker, finished top of the staff league, with Miss Bower and Dr Thomson winning places on the podium.
