The Singers’ Showcase was a true celebration of the range of vocal talent there is to be found at King’s. Singers from Year Five to the Upper Sixth performed an eclectic collection of items, including sacred and secular classical repertoire, jazz classics and songs from various musicals. Bryer (U6C) even performed her own original composition, singing and accompanying herself at the piano. All singers did a superb job of entertaining a large audience of family members and governors, staff and pupils of the school, so it would not be possible to mention everyone individually by name. Well done to all of you brave and talented soloists.
Additionally, we would like to congratulate our pupil accompanists: Shiv (U6), Alex (L6), Zara (U5) and Alex (U5), all remarkably from Whiston House. They also impressed everyone by their sensitive collaborations with some of the singers. This was a new venture for our concerts, guided by Miss Roux and hopefully the start of many more similar opportunities for making music at King’s.
Much gratitude is owed to those who make such events possible. Mr Moulton, Mrs Rogers and Mr Jamieson-Smith – who welcomed the audience and introduced the showcase – are our three brilliant singing teachers, who have dedicated much time and energy to preparing the soloists so well for these performances. Miss Roux once again provided outstanding piano accompaniment herself, in addition to working with the pupil accompanists. Dr Binney was there behind the scenes, making many of the essential arrangements for the showcase to run so smoothly, as well as leading the warm hospitality all attendees received. Thank you all and also those other colleagues, who have offered support and guidance which has contributed in innumerable ways to developing confidence and technical skill in our young musicians.
Finally, good luck to all U5 and U6 musicians now embarking upon important seasons of exams. We appreciate the contributions you have made to musical life at the school and hope that this will not be the last time you participate in a concert at King’s.
