Schools Challenge
The General Knowledge season is under way with six teams, Preparatory, Intermediate and Senior, competing in the Schools Challenge competition based on TV’s “University Challenge”.
The Intermediate team played Farnham Heath End School and lost by 80-300 points, but the Senior teams had exciting wins. The “A” team composed of two Sixth Formers and two Fifth Formers trailed Hurstpierpoint College’s team for most of the contest only drawing level at the denouement. A sudden death question on medieval royal families answered by Oscar C, the youngest member of the group, made up by Seb L, Nick R and Daya S, saw King’s win by the narrowest of margins, 270-260 points.
The pulse was slowed in the “B” team contest against South Hampstead School with the King’s team establishing a commanding 300 point lead, before eventually winning in emphatic style 500-130. Captain Ella J was ably supported by Charles B, Chester C and Jacques P, with the team combining speed of buzzer and thought.
With three teams yet to play, it is good to see the season starting so well.
