Scholar Charlie (L5) has continued to impress us at King’s with his musical endeavours.

In June 2025 Charlie was thrilled to make his concerto debut with the Hayes Symphony Orchestra. Conducted by KSR ensemble leader Dan James, Charlie performed a joyous rendition of Bruch’s First Violin Concerto as rehearsal soloist.

Early July Charlie was honoured to open a Bach festival in the City of London as part of the elite chamber ensemble, Strings for Youth, directed by Tim Wells. Repertoire included Bach, Handel and Purcell, performed in the National Musician’s Church – Holy Sepulchre, High Holborn – alongside the memorial to the founder of the BBC proms, Sir Henry Wood. It was a powerful and moving programme which  earned  a return invitation for this vibrant ensemble of talented young string players.

Charlie was honoured to be selected as Principal Second Violin of the Advanced Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall for a weekend of inspirational music making. Saxophonist Jess Gillam and world-renowned legend of the trumpet, Wynton Marsalis, joined the combined orchestras for a thrilling performance of Shostakovich’s First Jazz Suite. The great Nicola Benedetti inspired all with her stunning playing, transformational workshops and passion for music as a force to unite people of all backgrounds.

Kent County Youth Orchestra August 2025
Charlie was proud to be part of a profound and moving performance by Kent County Youth Orchestra of Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’ and Sibelius’ En Saga under the baton of Leon Gee. This highly professional and sophisticated offering was the result of fine tuition and superbly structured rehearsals over a five day residency. KCYO’s team of specialist tutors included King’s violin teacher Julian Milone and our very own trombonist Edward Hyde (OR) during his summer break from the Royal College of Music. Huge thanks to the Kent Music team for delivering orchestral training that is truly second to none.

Charlie’s progress is supported by his Music Scholarship and violin teacher at KSR, Julian Milone (Philharmonia Orchestra), Charlie is now focused on becoming the best violinist he can be and hopes to attend a top Conservatoire.
