We are delighted to celebrate an extraordinary achievement by Luke O (Remove), who successfully rang his first three Quarter Peals during the half-term break – an accomplishment that would be remarkable for any bellringer, let alone achieving all three within just three days.
Luke’s first Quarter Peal took place at Rochester Cathedral on Sunday 24th May, where he began in January 2025. His second was rung on the treble bell at St Michael and All Angels Church, Cuxton on Wednesday 27th May, with the King’s School Rochester Bellringing Team at Mrs MacDonald’s parish church. Later that same day, Luke completed his third Quarter Peal at St Margaret’s Church.
A Quarter Peal consists of 1,260 changes and takes approximately 45 minutes to ring continuously. Quarter Peal attempts are not always successful, as they demand intense concentration, teamwork, accuracy and physical endurance throughout the performance. Completing a first Quarter Peal is therefore a significant milestone for any bellringer. To achieve three successful Quarter Peals in just three days is an exceptional accomplishment and a wonderful cause for celebration.
Adding to this success, Luke has also attained his ART Learning the Ropes (LTR) Level 3 award, recognising the progress he has made in developing his bellringing skills and knowledge.
King’s is incredibly proud of all the bellringers’ dedication, commitment and enthusiasm. The team’s achievements highlight the rewards that come from perseverance and practice, and they are excellent ambassadors for the School’s thriving Bellringing Club taught by Neil Jones and Mark Elvers. Thank you to Mrs MacDonald who runs the weekly club, for her dedication, passion and incredible support for our bellringing pupils.
