Our annual Sixth Form business challenge once again left a strong impression on the judging panel, showcasing inspiring and well thought through business initiatives. Thank you to the parents, ORs and local entrepreneurs who generously gave up their time and expertise to support this event.
Molly from the winning team reflects on the day…
As the hall started to fill with pupils, the excitement and nerves increased with the worry of who is in what group. Some were very pleased and others less so, but there was no time to sulk. With the pick of an envelope, our business mentor and challenges were chosen. There were a wide range of challenges from cat cafes, re-designing the vines, making companies more diverse to designing apps.
With only an hour with our mentor, the Lower Sixth had to buckle down and find out as much information as possible in order to try and be the most successful group. After the hour was up, it was time for planning the presentations on our own. There were trips to the Design Technology workshop to make practical props and lots of visits to the printers. With a shortened lunch break, it was back to the hall to have a run through of the presentation. In many cases, we had to try to shorten them down to only 5 minutes, whilst gaining any last minute advice from our mentor before the big dragon den style pitch to be judged by all of the mentors.
‘Sports News & Events’ won the challenge by designing an app to share news about sports with consumers and to work out how to monetise it. Members of the winning team included Molly, Robert, Sam and Jule. They won a cash prize donated by the event’s sponsor, John Taylor of Alchemy Technology Services.
