Our budding architects from Year 7 and Upper Sixth recently faced a strange predicament — to design and build quake-proof structures, but with spaghetti and marshmallows! But our pupils faced up to the challenge, and some of these structures remarkably survived simulated earthquakes measuring up to 10 on the Richter Scale. This project not only showcased the pupils’ creativity and problem-solving skills but also provided practical insights into structural engineering and resilience.
Pupils across Years 7 to Upper Sixth have also been exploring concepts such as space, place and their interconnections in Geography. The earthquake-proof building project exemplifies how these concepts extend beyond the classroom as pupils understand how to adapt buildings to geographical challenges.
