Preparatory MUSIC

Choirs

Preparatory School Choir

The Preparatory School choir was formed over Lent term 2024, as King’s School hosted the inaugural IAPS Festival of Singing in the cathedral, alongside five other choirs from schools around Kent. After this very successful debut, the choir has continued to rehearse weekly on Tuesdays after school, performing songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in another partnership event.

Years 7&8 Chamber Choir

The Years 7 and 8 Chamber Choir gives the more senior pupils in the preparatory school a taste of part-singing in order to bridge the gap between the preparatory and senior schools. The group sings a variety of repertoire, some of which is selected by the pupils themselves. They rehearse before school on Friday mornings and gave their debut performance in the Prep School Carol service in 2023.

Wind Band

Rehearsals take place during Friday lunchtimes. Music is adapted to fit the instrumental balance available, and to suit any ability – although it is best suited to pupils from grade 1 standard upwards. Woodwind, Brass and percussion players are welcome and instrumental parts are adapted to the standard of individual pupils. Most of our music is written for developing bands and is a mixture of well-known tunes and the less familiar.
