On Tuesday we held the 4th Sixth Form Business Challenge. This year it was sponsored by John Taylor of Alchemy Technology Services Limited, who provided a cash prize to the members of the winning team.
The pupils were put into small groups and randomly selected a challenge from those available. They then spent an hour with their business mentor who fully explained their brief before leaving them to research and put together a solution. Finally, they had to present their solutions to our panel of judges who then had the difficult task of selecting the winning team.
The business challenges included marketing proposals for increasing footfall at Cafe Nucleus in off-peak times, designing a new office space and layout to accommodate hybrid working at BAE and tasks looking at the environmental, social and governance implications of supply chains or recruitment practices.
The teams did an excellent job, with pupils stepping up to the challenge. James from Lower Sixth Crick said ‘The business challenge was a really rewarding experience, the change to meet industry professionals and attempt to solve real world problems with their guidance was fantastic. It taught me lots of new problem solving and teamwork skills and provided a real window into business life’.
The business mentors were very impressed with the quality of the solutions the teams developed and the presentations they gave.
Well done to all the Lower Sixth and a big thank you to all of the business mentors who gave up their time to make this event possible.
The winning team comprised of Inigo, Hibah, Jemima, Roan and James, whose business mentor was Marion who has a background in real estate and surveying.
