On Tuesday, the Lower Sixth chemistry students took a break from their regular timetable to dive into the fascinating world of pharmaceutical chemistry. Their mission: to synthesise the widely used painkiller, aspirin, as part of their practical endorsement. Throughout the day, they navigated a series of intricate procedures, including reflux, recrystallisation, and vacuum filtration. Even with the warm weather, their determination didn’t waver. By the end of the day, each student had successfully produced a sample of aspirin. Once these samples are dry, they will be analysed to assess the success of their efforts.
