Cara J (L6) spent her week’s work experience at Puppy Dog Tails which offers puppy training classes and socialisation sessions. “I was involved in training puppies in the basic commands and in socialising dogs of all ages and sizes in the field that the organisation rented, and helping to monitor the dogs’ behaviour and advise owners on how to work towards solving any issues where necessary. I thought it was really fun to meet loads of different breeds of dogs and it was interesting to see how the organisation laid the foundations for training young dogs so they grow up to have a good temperament”. Cara thoroughly enjoyed her placement and took away a lot of knowledge about working with dogs. “I learnt that training dogs requires patience and time as different breeds offer different challenges. I also learnt that socialising with other dogs is a very important step in the development of dogs, puppies to adults”.
