Siia, one of our Ukranian pupils, has reason to be smiling having received high praise from the HMC for her excellent essay writing skills in the HMC (Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference) Essay Writing Competition. Well done Siia!
King's was happy to host a Garden party celebration for the coronation of King Charles. On a glorious afternoon, we had over 300 hundred pupils and parents join us for fun, games and delicious cakes, in the sunshine (which we had especially arranged). It was a great way to start the celebrations for the weekend. Mr. Charles then led us in a hearty rendition of the National Anthem.
Congratulations are extended to the Preparatory School General Knowledge team which successfully retained the Rowland Constantine Shield in Friday's IAPS District 2 General Knowledge Final. The team was in striking distance of the lead throughout, scoring especially well in the team rounds on airline logos, holy books, literary first lines and heroes and heroines, as well as showcasing impressive recall in the individual rounds. However, the team's knowledge of castles proved decisive as it snuck home in the final round to head the scores of Bickley Park, Hilden Grange, New Beacon and Wellesley House, winning by two points to defend the title. Well done!
On Wednesday our Senior School pupils visited Paris with the French department. Spring has definitely sprung there with t-shirt weather taking them pleasantly a bit by surprise! The sun shone as they walked around the sites of central Paris with Mr Medhurst enriching the day with his detailed knowledge of the history and architecture of the city. They ate in a classic French bistro and visited Galeries Lafayette, where there is a spectacular view of the city. Paris was its beautiful and elegant self and much enjoyed by all on the trip.
Year 8 pupils returned to the First World War Battlefields of Ypres on Friday resuming a tradition that began nearly 25 years ago.
