The Governors of King’s School Rochester are seeking to appoint a dynamic, inspirational Principal to lead the School Rochester into the 2030s. The King’s School is set in the heart of Rochester Cathedral’s Precinct and as such forms part of a wide and yet close knit, caring community.
King’s School Rochester is a co-educational, independent school with 650 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, including 50 boarders and comprises a Nursery, a Pre-Preparatory School, a Preparatory School and a Senior School. The size of the School creates a strongly supportive, friendly atmosphere with an emphasis on excellent academic results within a full and rounded co-curricular programme. King’s provides a happy learning environment which is underpinned by a strong sense of care, kindness, moral values, self-discipline and emotional intelligence, giving pupils the courage and confidence to be their best.
Governors are looking for a candidate with a track record of successful school leadership in a similar setting and the field is also open to those who are interested to step up to Principal having, for example, been an established senior deputy elsewhere. Governor Vacancies at King’s School Rochester
An opportunity has arisen to join the Governing Body at King’s School, Rochester. Governors are responsible for the strategic direction and vision of the school and overseeing financial performance. King’s School Governors are also Directors and Trustees of the School with legal responsibilities.
King’s Rochester is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England, all-through school with nursery classes and sixth form situated in Rochester, Kent. It is an independent school with boarding provision and an associate member of the Woodard Foundation. A smaller than average school, King’s Rochester provides 800 places for nursery, preparatory, senior and sixth-form students between the ages of 3 and 18 when fully subscribed.
The oldest choir school and the second oldest school in the world, King’s Rochester has roots dating back to the founding of Rochester Cathedral in the year 604 AD. King Henry VIII refounded the school in 1542.
We are seeking dynamic and motivated individuals to expand the competencies of the existing Governing Body. We are seeking applications from high-calibre professionals and particularly welcome applicants with experience in the independent education sector or; SEND and EHC Plans; communications and marketing; compliance and audit.
The role is non-remunerated, but expenses will be paid. The role will require a commitment of around ten days a year which will include attending Governors Meetings, serving on one of the Committees and attending training and development opportunities. There will also be an opportunity to be an active member of the King’s community and attend school events throughout the year.

The Senior school is seeking a temporary Exam invigilators to help the Exams officer during forthcoming GCSE and A level internal examinations between January 7th-17th. Duties will include supervision of groups and those with special educational needs including on a one to one basis and in the typing suite. No experience is necessary; however successful applicants should be able to deal calmly and efficiently with the unexpected, pay attention to detail, maintain pupil discipline, be able to read out loud clearly and write quickly and clearly to dictation. Ability to provide emergency cover at last minute would be useful.
Ideally, candidates will be available from 08:30-17:30 on each of the days. However, we may be able to offer some flexibility. Lunch will be provided free of charge.
