With such an abundance of talent, there is always something exciting happening at King’s.
Mr Andrew Carpenter delivered the latest Zetountes Lecture, addressing an audience of King's Scholars on the challenges of peace-keeping. Drawing on his extensive experience as Chief of the United Nations Police Division’s Strategic Policy and Development Section, which included operational service in places such as Darfur, Mr Carpenter highlighted the responsibilities of all nations to preserve peace in a globalized world. His talk was both illuminating and engaging, inviting the audience to continue the "fight for peace".
Pupils from Bryony School, St Andrew's School and Shorne Church of England Primary School visited King's today to enjoy our Music and Drama workshop.
On Tuesday we held the fourth Sixth Form Business Challenge. This year it was sponsored by John Taylor of Alchemy Technology Services Limited, who provided a cash prize to the members of the winning team.
On Monday our Sixth form Politics pupils spent a beautiful day in London visiting the UK Supreme Court then the Houses of Parliament.
We are thrilled to announce that our former pupil, Mimi Webb, has been nominated for her first BRIT award as best new artist.
Last week the Charities Committee had a great day out visiting Cobbes Meadow, so that they could learn about the charity we are supporting this year and do a few odd jobs for them, as well as make a list of bigger jobs that we can go and help them with later in the year.
This week the School Council met with Mr Tony Nixon and Mr Hill to discuss the plans for the School playground. There were many designs to choose from and we cannot wait to see the end result!
We were delighted that Caoimhe, Sarah, Hugh, Toby, Alex and Isla have made it through to the final of Medway Rotary Young Musician of the Year, to be held at the Brook Theatre, Chatham on Friday 17th March.
Everybody was particularly happy to be able to wrap up in some extra layers and warm jumpers as we raised money for the charities chosen by our pupils in The School Council – The Woodland Trust and The Queen’s Green Canopy, The Open House Project and Cobbes Meadow Riding School for the Disabled.
Pupils at King’s School Rochester brought in new toys and gifts in December to donate to the Strood Community Project. The Project distributed hampers in the run up to Christmas to help those struggling financially and we are delighted to hear that our donations played a big part in making a real difference to the Christmases of 200 families.
